Are Botox Parties Safe? Botox was originally considered safe only in the sterile environment of a medical office, but with time all things change. It is now in fashion for people to attend Botox events and parties where a professional is available in a contained area to give the injections on the spot to anyone who wants them. While parties were originally held in private homes, they are now becoming quite common in upscale shopping boutiques, spas and gyms, as well as other business settings. A Botox party can introduce more risk into what was typically a very safe procedure. 

Since the injections are not being given in the controlled medical environment and without a thorough consultation before the injections, the FDA, plastic surgeons, and concerned consumers have voiced concern that these parties are unsanitary and unsafe. So, why would anyone do this? Most consumers who go to Botox parties have received the injections before and are attracted by the social atmosphere. Often, all of their friends are at the party doing the same thing. Also, they usually receive a reduced rate than what they would pay going into the doctor’s office on their own for their injections. For the plastic surgeon or doctor, there is a lot of money to be made. 

A Botox party offers a lot of paying customers in one area, all willing and ready to have the procedure in this fun atmosphere. The surgeon will usually purchase a bulk order of Botox for use at a large party, which cuts their expense so a group rate can be offered. The real problem with receiving injections at a Botox event or party is that the side effects or complications that may occur are more difficult to handle correctly in a party setting. 

Botox Party Safety Risks

For starters, most Botox parties involve alcohol and drinking can increase the bruising around the areas of the injections. Other side effects such as severe muscle paralysis may not be noticed and dealt with correctly in this setting. Headaches, nausea, and other flu-like symptoms often occur during or after the injections as well, but are more likely to be blown off at a party. For these reasons, consumers are urged to stick with official medical settings and to ensure they have a consultation with a qualified surgeon before taking any Botox injections. The lower price of the injections and the fun of watching friends and loved ones become more youthful over the course of the night is what spark the popularity of Botox parties in certain crowds. Yet, most do not realize that the full results are usually not seen until a few days after the party. 

Many of the doctors who regularly hold these parties are board certified and make attempts to secure a sterile environment despite the surroundings. Many parties are also open only to prior patients and are strictly invite-only events. This can cut down on the risk of side effects or serious complications on the spot, since the doctor has worked with the patients before. These doctors claim that the party environment relaxes the patients and makes it more enjoyable for everyone involved. What really has medical professionals worried are injections being given at random locations such as clothing boutiques and spas. 

There have been instances and claims of uncertified doctors or even untrained members of a medical staff actually administering the injections at some of these business sites. Since Botox is considered extremely safe, some people feel they do not need a medical degree or specific training to carry out this type of procedure. Another serious concern is the possibility of undiluted or otherwise non-purified forms of the injections being given in order to reduce the price. 

There have been instances of fake Botox being purchased and injected with serious consequences. The only way for a consumer to ensure that they are receiving real Botox injections is to purchase from a board certified plastic surgeon that has a proven history with this type of procedure. It may seem harmless to attend a Botox party or get fast injections while shopping, but the increased risk of serious side effects or complications is not worth the time or expense saved.
